“I had four key aims in putting our business
online,” says Stephen Gill – Managing Director of Gilmex. “Firstly, I wanted to ensure that we were positioned to
take advantage of the Internet as a sales outlet for commodity
products - for example, laminating pouches - and therefore to
expand our customer base, bypassing resellers and
intermediaries to sell directly to the end customer.
Although people can readily buy these commodity
supplies from their usual sources, they can now also buy from
us over the Internet, but at a much lower price. Secondly, I saw our new web site as a way of
offering specialist products as solutions to presentation or
binding problems which people might not know exist or which
they might have seen but don’t know where to find.
At the same time there was clearly the opportunity to
convert a chunk of our existing mail order business into
internet orders with a lower admin cost.
Finally, I could see a significant advantage, in terms
of cost, flexibility and customer service by moving away from
printed product brochures towards using our new web site as a
permanently up to date showcase for the company’s product
range.”
